Safari Seasons in Tanzania national parks
The Northern Circuit, home to iconic destinations like Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire, and Lake Manyara, offers incredible wildlife viewing year-round. But each season brings its own unique charm.
Dry Season (June – October)
This is the peak safari season. Wildlife gathers around rivers and waterholes, making it easier to spot elephants in Tarangire, tree-climbing lions in Lake Manyara, and predators on the Serengeti plains. The famous wildebeest migration moves north, often reaching the dramatic Mara River crossings in July -August. Clear skies and cooler temperatures make it perfect for photography.
Short Rains (November – December)
A brief season of light showers transforms the landscape into fresh greenery. Wildlife is still abundant, and the parks are less crowded. This is a great time to enjoy a quieter experience in Ngorongoro Crater or catch the start of the migration moving back south in the Serengeti.
Green Season (January – March)
The southern Serengeti and Ndutu area become the stage for the Great Migration’s calving season. Over half a million wildebeest calves are born within a few weeks, attracting predators like lions
