The Cheetah’s Hunting Style, Fast, Smart, and Full of Skills

When we think of speed in the wild, the cheetah always comes to mind, and for a good reason. This beautiful cat can run up to 110 km/h, but there’s more to its hunt than just speed.

Cheetahs are daytime hunters, which means they use their sharp eyes, not night vision, to spot their next meal. They’ll usually go after small antelopes like Thomson’s gazelles. But before the chase begins, a cheetah will crouch low in the grass, moving slowly and carefully to get as close as possible, sometimes within just 60 meters.

Once the moment is right, the chase begins. It’s fast, it’s intense, and it lasts less than a minute. The cheetah twists and turns with amazing balance, using its long tail like a steering wheel to help it keep up with its target.

When it gets close, it uses a quick swipe or trip to bring the prey down, followed by a precise bite to the throat. But even after a successful hunt, the cheetah doesn’t relax. It eats quickly, always aware that stronger predators like lions or hyenas could show up and steal the kill.

It’s not just about speed, it’s about timing, focus, and survival. That’s what makes the cheetah’s hunting style so fascinating.
